I made a mistake and played Cat Quest II first. This one's probably better than my perception of it but it is still good.
A Zelda-like action RPG with magic, swords, a cute lil' kitty guy as the hero, and a well-crafted environment. The first game establishes the trilogies' signature style with the iconic graphics and music and the isometric 3-D style. Plus, the absolutely most adorable healing animation where your cat hero just flops on the ground to take a bit of a nap, then wakes up refreshed and ready to rumble like a real cat. Also, it is full of cat-based puns (some of which are a bit of a stretch).
To be honest, there's not much to complain about in this one unless you can't take the silly dialogue. It's a good time and the story is basic but easy enough to connect to. There are fun characters to meet, the pacing is good, and it never feels tedious or too difficult. My only complaint is that it isn't couch co-opable like CQII, my favorite of the three. This one is a good little solo game, though.
