After Ace Combat 4, I took a break from the series (I think most other people did too?). Ace Combat 7 was a warm welcome back.
From the get go, the drama of the first few games in the series is back. While the first two used almost exclusively audio cues to bring the feelings, AC7 is a full assault on the senses via cutscenes nearly intense enough to be a feature film, particularly on the PS4 Pro, where the graphics are crisp and seemingly flawless. The gameplay of this fighter sim is, of course, improved from the fourth entry in the series, with a more dynamic third-person view that moves the plane around on the screen instead of anchoring it in one spot, incredibly responsive controls, and a feel that puts you in the cockpit more than any other sim game I've played while still balancing an arcade level of complexity.
This balance and the graphical improvements might make this the best of the series that I've played. There seems to be a difficulty level increase, but it is still accessible to a pretty average game-player like myself. It is filled with action and completing the campaign is an awesome experience though the story is still just technical war stuff and shooting things, mostly. Taken as a mild simulator of fighter piloting and as a just a plain old action game, this Ace Combat is a delight.
Best in the series and easily worth a play for Ace Combat vets and rookies alike.
