An ad-filled artillery game for the phone game era.

screenshot of Bowmasters

Take a simple game concept, artillery, put some stylized cartoon graphics on it and you basically have a hit game on your hands, it seems. As with all artillery games, you pick an angle and a power level and you let your projectile fly. You probably know this mechanic from games like Angry Birds but it has been around since... like 50 years ago? It's a classic and this is a pretty good version of it. To entertain the modern audience, it adds variations to the projectiles via choosing your bowman (or bowlady, I guess). It's a decent time, honestly.

Unfortunately, the free version has the most ads ever. Ad before a round. Ad before the rewards. Ad to double each of your rewards. In a little 5-minute play sesh to refresh my memory about this game, I probably spent more time on menu browsing and ad watching than shooting arrows. Apparently if you let it sit long enough it will also start up an ad for you. So, it has the joys of the modern phone game era (good graphics and gameplay) and the sorrows of the same (ads, ads, and more ads). It also has season passes and other ways to buy more stuff like other monetized apps of today.

So, if you've got extra cash to spend on a mobile game to get rid of these intrusive ads and you like the artillery game mechanic paired with a collecting game, this might be a game for you, but more likely you'll tire of it quickly.
