Platform
This just a bit too cartoonish platformer goes for cleverness and gets mildly interesting.

Bombastic colors, a solid soundtrack, impeccable sound design, and a dramatic narrator serve up the style as you navigate some mild platforming and a bit of zelda-ish swashbuckling. The lovable characters make an impression and the story is pretty solid, with a good twist at one point. A wide array of clever mechanics like changing the words on the page of the book that serves as one of the worlds of the game or being able to jump from the pages into the "real world" make the game interesting enough to keep playing but perhaps not quite as groundbreaking as the developers had hoped.

The 2-D world is wonderful and full of diverse tactics to entertain. The 3-D world feels a bit dated, however, and a bit of a let down. Combine that with perhaps a few too many hints and not quite enough danger and you get a fine game but not one that I think I'll look back on with much reverence. I think it might sell well on the Switch as that audience skews a bit younger but for more seasoned game players it may fall on the verge of childish and simplistic.
