A couple hours of button-smashing fun!

Punch punch punch punch star punch punch pick up a thing punch punch punch star! Sometimes, you just need a pretty mindless and simple button masher, friends. This is a nice homage to the NES era of simple inputs and a simple story leading to straightforward fun. In episode 4 in the series, you are one of four initial characters that needs to punch their way to fighting the kids of the previous boss because they're inventing a mind control sound wave or something, I guess... I didn't pay that much attention, actually. You only need to know that you are going to be pressing square a lot of times and walking to the right.

This game is fun to play but does lack something to really elevate it to the next level. The graphics are exactly what they should be in the modern console era and I found no fault with sound design or soundtrack. Maybe it is a bit short? I played it couch co-op and we got through in a couple hours. Perhaps the difficulty is a bit uneven? It is pretty straightforward punching and moving as we progressed, until the final boss level really ramped up the intensity. I wonder if a less "action hero" story would be helpful? No, probably not, as the ridiculous mind control, comic book story is exactly what you expect. I can't quite pin down what would have made this a stand out game for me, honestly. Maybe it needed a block button, or to be longer, or to have more variation in the enemies and levels? Maybe it is just all of the above.

While I enjoyed playing through the story once, I will probably not head back to try any of the other features or replay the story. If you're an enthusiast of the genre, it seems like a fine addition, though.
