I think I liked this cartoon, sci-fi, shooter comedy game?
Having never watched a single episode of Rick & Morty, I hopped into this game from the same creators without expectation. As an old man raised on 90's late-night/weirdo two-word animation like Ren & Stimpy and Beavis & Butthead, I understood the vein of comedy in this game world implicitly, however. The goal is clearly off-beat fun and non-sequitur jokes that are strange but may give you a chuckle. The vision is cohesive around this base impulse and manages to drive a somewhat interesting story line of alien invasion that forces you to become a bounty hunter and warp your house places to maybe save the human race from being consumed due to their narcotic effect on blobby, otherworldly lifeforms. It's an enjoyable playthrough in this respect.
However, there are some bits that the controls need some refinement since they feel like super old bouncy shooters like Unreal Tournament. The effect is manageable and you get distracted by the various alternative modes of level traversal, however. To make up for soft controls, we get guns that are alive and talk to you (maybe too much), weird and kind of wonderful enemy bosses, cartoony yet detailed sci-fi worlds and levels, and plenty of wacky easter eggs and other treats (like a couple star voice cameos). If you're a casual shooter enthusiast with a taste for Adult Swim-type animation, this game might be for you.
-1 star, though, because I am just finding out now about the allegations against the creator and it makes me sad to have enjoyed this game (looks like he resigned from the company so hopefully playing it on PS+ doesn't give him any money).
