Have you ever taken a break from your usual routine and found that something interesting has happened?
Look, game people, sometimes we forget that these things are supposed to be fun. Some folks get all obsessed with setting records or beating their own records or whatever and they end up yelling at the screen more often than not, am I right? What if you could just play a game that explores a world and gives you the reward of joy for your exploration. The joy of silliness, of non sequitur, of mildly immature humor, of discovery, accomplishment, a sarcastic quip from the narrator, or just a playstation trophy for playing the game for the entirety of a Tuesday. The Stanley Parable is a game that rewards you with joy if you look for it.
Having never booted up the original and only having downloaded this on a "Wait, I think I heard this was good." hunch, I was pleasantly surprised by what I played. The graphics and sounds are fine but a bit dated for 2022 and now why I recommend this game. What elevates this beyond average is the gameplay and the story. Specifically, how you access the story through the interaction between you and the narrator is pretty unique, clever, and fun. I am hesitant to spoil anything if you've yet to make a playthrough but, after trying several endings, I found myself thinking about how to do things differently on a future run. This game was a treat and I'm very glad it exists.
Do yourself a favor, go in blind and just try stuff on this one. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
