All Cops Are Slow and Annoying, apparently.
This could have been an interesting game. Make it a little campy and fun to play, acknowledging the sort of over the top 80's-ness of the original film while using modern game technology to keep players coming back. However, we got a wooden and painfully slow gameplay experience and some pretty bad voice acting and writing that may have been trying to be bad enough to be fun but actually only ended up bad enough to be bad. Bobo Terminator quips from robo kept me groaning in anguish as the PS3 or earlier emulator loaded up and I attempted to have mindless fun shooting at green-outlined targets. Typos in the subtitles distracted me from the weird accent choices (why was everyone in the hospital from the American South?) The story didn't grab me at all and every cut scene was messed up with awful audio sync and weird pop-in artifacts when the camera changed.
Yet, somehow, I stuck it out through the whole campaign, hunting down the guy -- no wait that other guy (twist!) -- murdering lots of people for "justice" just like the modern day US law enforcement dreams about, I'm sure. I listened to all the monotonic and weirdly timed dialogue I could, upgraded some skills and did some chip-building (apparently). I think I really wanted it to be better than it is kind of like I really want our law enforcers to be better than they are. However, both are pretty spectacular let downs quite often. Maybe the next Robocop could be him learning about restorative justice and finding nonviolent ways to deescalate situations by providing adequate social safety nets for the city of Detroit. Or maybe he could continue his anti-capitalist crusade and take out all the corporations. I doubt it, though, we'll probably get more of whatever Rogue City was trying to be.
Anyways, don't play this game unless you have nothing better to do. Oh wait, ACAB and abolish ICE, as long as I'm thinking about it.
