A rare game where the menus are better than the actual game.
I downloaded this and booted it up not knowing a single thing about it so I think it is my fault that I'm about to rank this thing so low, honestly. No fault to the devs, who undoubtedly did their best and probably made a fine game for people who like the Fortnites or Overwatches of the game universe. Well, that ain't me and I was sorely disappointed to hit start and get into this.
The UI of the menus and the startup sequence of this are rad (80's term. Means very nice looking). I was actually pretty excited to get into the world and, I don't know, fight a guy with a chainsaw that I vaguely remember from watching the movie, like, 35 years ago. Hit start and... waiting for lobby? What is this? Oh no. Choose to play as a victim, watch the too-long tutorial video and remember nothing which is fine because I end up as a family member. Hang out in the lobby for what seems like a long time waiting for one more player while one of the other gamers calls me a "noob" in the chat. Once we got playing, conceptually, it's a 3 on 4 sort of battle and the victims just have to escape but have a pretty big disadvantage. The level I played was basically full darkness and I flailed around until my team won. The post-round options were to continue or quit and I gladly hit quit and escaped my own horrors.
Maybe if you like team-based games, really like this one horror movie, or have friends that want to play this, it might be of interest but honestly it seems like it is going to shut down and be unplayable by the time you read this so... oh well.
