I paid $5 for this record.
What we have here is two class Evan Weiss jams. Both songs feature his exquisitely crafted melodies and a bit of a loping rhythm that drives you along the twists and turns of a solidly structured tune. Good stuff.

Wearing White is a fine track, but after you get to the B-side, it's a bit overshadowed by Anchor which is an absolute gem of passion and melody. Man, that last section that starts "Take this with you to the west coast..." is incredible. Even just a solo electric guitar and vocals packs a solid punch on this track.

Of the three versions of Anchor I've heard, I think this is probably my favorite. That distant electric guitar is a companion to Weiss' vocals that is more gritty than the acoustic. And these vocals are a little more varied and poignant than other versions, with more gut punches and emphasis while keeping in control... like someone holding back their anger to keep an argument with a spouse from escalating.

Good stuff!

If you like this review, you can buy me a coffee.
