Punk 7" vinyl
Kirbdog Kd-007 (1992)
I paid $4.99 for this record.
"It's not terrible, just bad" is a pretty good summary of this record. The musicianship is actually pretty decent. The bassist kicks out some ridiculous walking bass lines and the whole sound is sort of blues-based Motörhead-listening bar rock. The type of music that I assume people get liquored up to, go out in their garage and work on American cars from the early 70's and then drive those cars to the bar just in time to walk on stage for their gig, man. It's sort of a redneck-punk. You pretty much have to wear denim to listen to this. The more faded, the better.

The B-side cover of a song about marrying your second cousin puts the redneck vibe over the top. Maybe it is terrible. Rednecks have pretty much been my mortal enemies since they tried to fight me in high school and mixing their weird insensitivities with the punk ethos breaks my brain. The lyrics aren't very redneck, in fact I'd say they're pretty supportive of the working class. It's just something about the bluesy bass walks and the hard-working singer that raises the hairs on the back of my neck like a fight is coming. Maybe there's a deep metaphor in there somewhere I'm missing.

Warning: the first song on this EP fades out strangely and abruptly. It scared the crap out of me and I thought my stereo just melted, which would be a bummer.

If you like this review, you can buy me a coffee.
