I started training for my first attempt at Mt. Rainier just before we learned my dad had terminal cancer. Just over two years later I was able to carry a small vial of his ashes to the top of the tallest mountain in the state he loved and give him this view looking northwest over his kids and his wife and his mom. If there is an afterlife, I think that's the one he'd have wanted. For all of us, I hope we we'll have yet one more reminder of the huge part he played in all of our lives.
