two happy hours.
Personal
Published 02-20-2009 on my old wordpress blog.

My BFF and her crew were hosting a happy hour get together, so I went to that. It was at a fancy place, so I guess I was lucky that I still had my teacher uniform on so I could fit in better. I’ve been trying to decide on a new direction for my fashion sense, but when I check out the fashions of the dudes around me I just stop caring. At any rate, I continue to polish my social skills. They are marginally shiny from time to time.

BFF challenged me to a no-negative-self-talk-in-her-presence campaign for March. I’ll give it a shot.

After the happy hour, I spent some happy hours working on music. I was playing piano for about 2 hours and then I was messing around with mixing and automation and a little bit of cut and paste to create the song I uploaded and am now going to post here. It is that song I quoted in the last post, So I Fall, by Small Brown Bike. I made a few piano mistakes, improvised an ending, had to use that cut and paste feature (poorly) to remove some long pauses (four, to be exact. at the start of every piano phrase of the chorus. I can’t switch from F# to G#min (inverted) very fast. Yet.), and did my best. I’m sort of okay with it, even though I see lots of room for improvement. Listen for the anger rising on the second half of the second verse.

Suggestions? Particularly for mixing, where I have no idea what I’m doing.

Successes:

Went to a social event, was social.

Played music. Got better at it.

Tomorrow: tune up the car time…
