crazy monkey attack
soccer team

history:

Crazy Monkey Attack started as a class at the University of Washington's Experimental College. If memory serves me correctly, the class was held in the fall of 2001. It covered basic soccer skills and the goal of the class was to create a team to compete in the co-rec soccer league. Since then, the team has gone through many personnel changes and even a league change.

Four current members have been with the team since the beginning, however. Mark Sadler has the distinct credit of being the one to suggest the team name (and official team dance, if you ask him nicely). Gary and Amy Hanson joined as a direct result of the class. Personally, I took the class to get back into playing soccer.

Though the team was mostly comprised of beginning or rusty soccer players, it did well in the first few seasons, even managing to go undefeated in the spring of 2002. We have participated in many season championship games and all but 3 or 4 of our season records have been winning records. Our recent move to the Northwest Co-ed Soccer League was difficult but we've now found a good group and are holding our own.

In writing a history, I'd be remiss in my duties if I did not mention some of the players that have moved on from our team. Namely, George, Scott, Gazelle, John, both Mikes, Patricia, Jennifer, and others that my 30+ year-old brain cannot recall the names of. I'm sure all of these players would be welcome to rejoin us at any time.

Despite our sometimes competitive nature, crazy monkey attack has actually become a sort of family. We've shared injuries (knee surgery, broken collarbones, broken ribs, twisted ankles, etc.), defeats, victories, the loss and gain of family members and many more experiences that tie us all together (like downpouring rain in winter on terrible dirt fields). In the end, I hope we put these people before the game. I hope we're out there having fun.
